Real Estate Scam in WNY

On Behalf of | Mar 8, 2015 | Estate Administration & Probate, Firm News |

Last month, the Buffalo News published a warning by the Erie County Clerk that an out-of-state company was mailing solicitations to recent property-purchasers, offering them a certified copy of their deed for a fee.

The fee is oftentimes vastly higher than the statutory fee to receive a certified copy of your document from the Clerk’s office, which is usually $10.

The Law Offices of Joshua Dubs, PLLC, and many other firms, make it a policy to provide the client with a certified copy of their deed or other official document once it is received by the firm. If you require another certified copy, it can be acquired from the Clerk’s office for a modest fee – usually $10, but sometimes lower. Do not solicit third party companies without consulting an attorney, or the Clerk’s office directly.
